What is Facial rejuvenation acupuncture?

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is the use of super fine needles to improve the appearance of wrinkles. It has recently become very popular and is now offered by many dermatologists as an option for patients who want to stay away from synthetic fillers. The dermatologist may use the term micro needling. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is any technique that uses super fine needles. The needles are placed where there are lines or wrinkles on the face. The needles are left in place for approximately 20 minutes. There is virtually no pain and on rare occasions slight bruising may occur. The micro trauma of needling creates new, younger looking skin and produces collagen at the site of the needle insertion. The increased collagen helps to plump up the skin and fill in the wrinkles. The Society of Acupuncture research at Harvard found collagen kinks up from habitual facial expression. Acupuncture works to unkink the collagen and disperse it. The American Cosmetic Acupuncture Association recommends an initial treatment of ten sessions, twice a week, followed by maintenance sessions on an individual basis. Noticeable results may be seen in 7-8 sessions.
